This obviously hasn't sat well with fans for a few years. Now, that doesn't mean this team doesn't have a shot to fight for something meaningful. To end the year, the Boston Red Sox will take on the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park on Friday, September 26th.
This game is literally meaningful baseball, as the team is still in the running for that wildcard spot. Once you're in the tournament, anything can happen.
